The city of Salem is one month in to site work for the future home of the Gerry Frank Salem Rotary Amphitheater, a new performing arts and event venue scheduled to open in 2021.

City crews are working through October to add lighting, parking and prepare the land before the Rotary Club of Salem brings in a crew to build the amphitheater.

The project is estimated to cost $4 million, with about $3.5 million raised so far. That includes over $900,000 in contributions from Rotary Club of Salem members, a $1 million state grant and $400,000 from the M.J. Murdoch Charitable Trust.

The club is donating the amphitheater to the city following construction as a celebration of its 100th birthday.
