Virtually every person in Marion County is now required to wear a face mask or other covering when going indoors to restaurants, bars, stores and other indoor public places.

Gov. Kate Brown mandated the masks as the number of Covid infections continues to grow rapidly in Oregon. She put eight counties on a Watch List where the spread is particularly pronounced.

There has been confusion about what good a mask does and who it protects. In this exclusive Salem Reporter video, Dr. Janine Van Sant of Santiam Hospital explains the need in clear terms.
