The National Weather Service Tuesday morning forecast that Salem will see rain showers Tuesday that should decrease through the day. Another wet front is expected to hit the area on Wednesday.

The weather service said minor flooding will continue in the central Willamette Valley.

In Salem, the Willamette is expected to crest on Wednesday at 26.18 feet – just below the flood stage of 28 feet.

The river last hit flood stage in 2012, when the crest was 29.42 feet. In 1996, when the area saw widespread serious flooding, the Willamette crested at 35.09 feet.

And the worst? National Weather Service records show the Willamette hit 47 feet in 1891 — nearly 20 feet above flood stage.
