As enrollment declines, Salem-Keizer schools will cut 130 jobs, largely without layoffs

Middle and high school students in the Salem-Keizer School District may have fewer choices for classes to take next school year as the district cuts about 60 teacher jobs to save money amid declining student enrollment.
School district leaders on Thursday, April 2, announced more details on their plan to cut $23 million from the district’s roughly $1.2 billion budget by eliminating a total of 130 jobs for the 2026-27 school year.

Rachel- possible to find out how many if any administrators are being laid off? They represent a top heavy number of employees not in the classroom.
While it is good news that these are marginal cuts, as opposed to the reduction in force cuts that were seen previously, there remains the large issues of declining enrollment. I have yet to see a pronounced vision from the school board with tangible actions to bring back up enrollment. All I hear are excuses and complaining from the superintendent.
