5 things to do in Salem this week: Indoor farmers markets, plant workshop, Van Halen tribute concert

Indoor Saturday farmers markets
*Salem Public Market: Escape the winter cold at Salem’s oldest farmers market from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. The indoor market has nearly 30 vendors selling products like pastries, fresh bread, milk, eggs, produce, jewelry and more. The market is at 1240 Rural Ave. S.E.
*Wavra Farms: Over 70 vendors filter through Wavra Farms’ weekly indoor winter market, which runs each Saturday until March 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors sell fresh fish, produce, jewelry, baked goods, woodwork and more.. The vendor schedule can be found here. The market is at 7882 Jordan St. S.E.
Two-day Bingo party
Saturday, Jan. 24 – Sunday, Jan. 25: “Bingo Loco,” an interactive stage show inspired by the classic game will touch down at the Grand Theatre in Salem over the weekend for a two-day event. Advertised as “The World’s Largest Bingo Party,” it will include nostalgic music, comedy, bingo and prizes. There are two shows each day: The early show from 6 – 8:30 p.m. and the late show from 10 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. Tickets are $35 and can be bought online. Tickets are sold out for Saturday’s early show.
Van Halen tribute concert
Saturday, Jan. 24: The fourth annual Edward Van Halen Memorial Concert will kick off at the Elsinore Theatre this weekend. The event will feature performances from musical guests honoring the late Van Halen guitarist. It will be from 7 – 10 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 – $35 when bought online, or $5 more at the door. The theatre is at 170 High St. S.E.
Salem Symphonic Winds concert
Sunday, Jan. 25: The Salem Symphonic Winds will perform a score illustrating stories and legends from around the world. The ensemble is made up of around 50 adult musicians playing the clarinet, trumpet, tuba, euphonium and other wind instruments. Tickets range $5 – $20, with a small added fee for online tickets. The concert will be from 3 – 5 p.m. in the South Salem High School Rose Auditorium at 700 Howard St. S.E.
Plant workshop
Sunday, Jan. 25: Enjoy a glass of wine while learning how to care for indoor plants at Cristom Vineyards. The workshop, hosted by Rootbound Plants & Pots, will teach watering schedules, pruning, repotting, fertilizing and more. Guests can take home a potted plant after the workshop. Admission is $65 per person, and tickets can be bought online. The vineyard is at 6905 Spring Valley Rd. N.W.
