5 things to do in Salem this week: Art walk, New Year’s yoga, drag brunch, movies

New Year’s yoga
Thursday, Jan. 1: Enjoy an evening yoga class on New Year’s Day at Resonance Yoga Collective. The class will include somatic release techniques and restorative yoga. It runs from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Tickets are on a sliding scale from $5-$20, and can be purchased online. The studio is at 129 Commercial St. N.E.
First Friday Art Walk
*Friday, Jan. 2: Visit Salem artists across five downtown galleries and stores during the First Friday Art Walk, from 5 – 8 p.m. The first art walk of 2026 will include Elsinore Framing & Art Gallery, Artists in Action, Studio Vino, Noira and The Freckled Bee. A map of the walk is available here. Admission is free.
Organ concert
*Sunday, Jan. 4: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the installation of its organ with a performance from Paul Klemme, director of music ministries. He will play hymnals and improvised Christmas carols on the organ. The performance is in memory of May Dudley, who served as the director of music ministries when the organ was installed in 1975. The concert begins at 4 p.m. after a 30 minute service. Attendance is free and open to the public. The church is at 1444 Liberty St. S.E.
Drag brunch
Sunday, Jan. 4: Ring in the new year with a drag brunch at The Vault Bar & Grill in West Salem. The brunch will include cocktails and performances from local drag queens. Reservations are required for $15, and general admission tickets run about $20 each. Tickets and reservations can be purchased online. Doors open at 10 a.m. and the show starts at 11 a.m. The bar is at 1111 Edgewater St. N.W.
Catch a movie
New movies are showing this week at Salem Cinema at 1127 Broadway St. N.E. and Northern Lights Theatre Pub at 3893 Commercial St. S.E.
Salem Cinema
“Marty Supreme,” a dramedy inspired by the table tennis player Marty Mauser, played by Timothée Chalamet. Rated R. Tickets range $10-$12.
“Song Sung Blue,” a family-friendly drama following a pair of musicians in a Neil Diamond tribute band. Rated PG-13. Tickets range $10-$12.
Northern Lights Theatre Pub
“Zootopia 2,” the sequel to the cartoon movie featuring an iconic sly bunny-dumb fox duo. Rated PG. Tickets range $5 – $9.
“Anaconda,” a new comedy with Jack Black and Paul Rudd. Rated PG-13. Tickets are $5 – $9.
“Avatar Fire and Ash,” the third movie in the Avatar franchise, starring Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet and others. Rated PG-13. Tickets are $5 – $9.
