Event highlights from Feb. 13-19: Realistic dinosaurs, Renaissance concert, derby mash-up

Here’s a roundup for the week from Thursday, Feb. 13, to Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Comedy at Infinity Room

Thursday, Feb. 13: A handful of local female comedians are performing stand-up and improv comedy that “punches back at the patriarchy.” The show includes several women who use comedy to “bite back” at current politics. It will take place at Infinity Room, 210 Liberty St. S.E. #150, in downtown Salem at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. It is an 18+ only show.

Jurassic Quest

Friday, Feb. 14-Monday, Feb. 17: Walk among dinosaurs at the Oregon State Fair and Expo Center when Jurassic Quest comes to Salem. The event will showcase true-to-size dinosaurs, including a large Tyrannosaurus Rex, including an interactive raptor training and baby dinosaur show. Attendees can enjoy dinosaur rides, a bounce house and fossil digs. 

The event will take place at the Oregon State Fair and Expo Center, 2330 17th St. N.E. and tickets range from $22 to $36. Children under 2 get in free. The event is open on Friday from 1-6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Roundhouse Band show

*Friday, Feb. 14: Join the Roundhouse Band for a night of music while enjoying food and beverages at The Yard Food Park in east Salem. The band includes local musicians Elizabeth Roop Leavitt, Ron Leavitt and Aron Bradley who will perform folk and bluegrass renditions of classic love songs for Valentine’s Day. The free performance will be from 6-8 p.m. The Yard Food Park is located at 4106 State St. More information is available on Facebook

Roller derby mash-ups

Saturday, Feb. 15: Cherry City Roller Derby hosts its annual My Bloody Valentine Doubleheader for a night of fun, food and roller derby excitement. Cherry City’s adult skaters will skate a mash-up at 7 p.m. Cherry City is joined by Concussion Roller Derby who will take to the floor at 4:30 p.m. against Gold Crush. There will be family-friendly food and beverages available during the event. 

Doors open for the doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. and tickets are $12 in advance, $15-16 at the door. Children 5 and under get in free. A family pass, which includes two tickets and free entrance for children under 13, cost $30. The event will take place at 1335 Madison St. N.E.

Herbal remedy workshop

Wednesday, Feb. 19: The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians is hosting its monthly workshop on how to make herbal remedies. This month’s workshop is a hands-on session about infusing honey with simple ingredients. 

The workshop will start at 4:30 p.m. and will take place at 3160 Blossom Dr. N.E. Suite 105. The workshop is designed for adults and children 8 and older. There is limited availability so reserve a spot by emailing [email protected] or calling 503-390-9494. 

Renaissance concert

Wednesday, Feb. 19: Enjoy a night of songs written during the Renaissance era by musician Josquin de Prez performed by the Cantores in Ecclesia, a vocal group dedicated to liturgical music. The concert will feature performances of Josquin de Prez’s most famous works and commentary from Kerry McCarthy, a scholar and expert on Renaissance music.

Tickets are $25, Willamette University faculty and staff for $10, seniors for $5 and university students can attend for free. The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. at Willamette University’s Hudson Concert Hall, 900 State St.
