Instead of a weekly listing of dozens of local events, Salem Reporter highlights a few each week on Wednesday afternoons.
Here’s a roundup for the week from Thursday, Jan. 2, to Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Infinity Room improv show
Friday, Jan. 3: Local comedians will crack jokes using the most strange and ridiculous reviews found from the internet. The selection of hilarious reviews will be used to inspire improvised comedy scenes at Infinity Room, located at 210 Liberty St. S.E. #150. The show, called “1 Star Revue,” will start at 9:30 p.m., doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. 21+ only.
Art walk
Friday, Jan. 3: Join the Salem Main Street Association for the first Art Walk of 2025. Starting at 5 p.m., enjoy an evening meeting and learning about six local artists and businesses. The event will also have pop-ups and live music throughout the night. Some of the event’s artists include Karen Nadeu and Susan Appleby at Elsinore Framing and Robin Kerr and Peregrine at Salem on the Edge. Information is available on Facebook. Meet at Ritter’s Eatery, 102 Liberty St. N.E.
Winter break robotics camp
Friday, Jan. 3: Silverleaf School, a non-profit education center, is hosting two day camps for students on winter break focused on building and learning about robotics. The first day camp is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will teach kids how to build a custom robot that can collect objects quickly. The second camp is from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and will teach how to program robots to drive remotely and use sensors. Each camp costs $40. The camps will take place at the school, located at 1274 Cunningham Ln. S.
Synergy Quartet concert
*Saturday, Jan. 4: Salem’s Synergy Quartet will perform a classical music concert at Saint Mark Lutheran Church in downtown Salem. The concert will include three songs by Ludwig van Beethoven, Luigi Boccherini and Alexander Borodin. The quartet consists of two violin players, one viola player and one cello player. Admission is free, and there is a suggested donation of $10. The concert starts at 2 p.m. The church is located at 790 Marion St. N.E.
CrossWalk fundraiser
Saturday, Jan. 4: The 14th annual CrossWalk fundraiser will kick off at 10 a.m. in Riverfront Park. Salem resident Mary Lucas organized the fundraiser to support Marion County’s Victim Assistance Program. The program helps crime victims heal and aims to lessen the impact of traumatic and violent crimes. The fundraiser is a 1.5 mile walk through Riverfront Park, starting at the Gerry Frank Amphitheater, 230 Front St. S.E. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Tickets cost $25 for adults, $15 for teenagers and the event is free for children under 12.
