A dark comedy

*Friday, Dec. 27 – Sunday, Dec. 29: “Through The Window,” a two-act dark comedy, is the story of an 18-year-old New Yorker in desperate need of a heart transplant. His father, an esteemed cardiologist, races against time to secure a heart donor and save his son’s life. The story unfolds in a quirky Upper West Side condo, where a historically protected tree grows through their eighth-floor window overlooking Central Park. The shows are free and will be performed at Hope Point Church, 1705 12th St. S.E. Tickets can be reserved online. Country music show

Classic film showings

Sunday, Dec. 29: The comedy “Singin’ in the Rain” will play at Salem Cinema at 12:30 p.m. The film is a spoof of the turmoil that afflicted the movie industry in the late 1920s when movies went from silent to sound. When silent movie stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamonts’ latest movie is made into a musical, a chorus girl is brought in to dub Lina’s speaking and singing. Don is on top of the world until Lina finds out. Tickets are $9.

Monday, Dec. 31: Salem Cinema is showing the classic romantic comedy “When Harry Met Sally” on New Year’s Eve. In 1977, college graduates Harry Burns, played by Billy Crystal, and Sally Albright, played by Meg Ryan, share a contentious car ride from Chicago to New York, during which they argue about whether men and women can ever truly be strictly platonic friends. Ten years later, Harry and Sally meet again at a bookstore, and in the company of their respective best friends, attempt to stay friends without sex becoming an issue between them. Tickets are $9 and showtime is 8 p.m.
