Explosion rocks southeast Salem homes Monday morning

Salem police are investigating an explosion reported in southeast Salem early Monday morning.

A call to emergency dispatchers around 3:45 a.m. reported a loud explosion near Southeast Ford and Claude Streets, according to Angela Hedrick, Salem police spokeswoman.

Officers arrived at the area of Southeast Mission and Ford Streets and spoke with a neighbor from a nearby residence on Claude Street who reported a broken window.

The person also told police that shrubbery along the landscaping on Mission Street was uprooted.

Salem police received no reports of injuries, Hedrick said. Officers cleared the scene around 5:30 a.m.

Salem police did not know the source of the explosion as of Monday morning. Police are continuing to investigate the incident, Hedrick said.

One neighbor, Steve Staten, told Salem Reporter the explosion rocked his house and woke him, his wife and several neighbors.
