Salem man accused of pulling gun at Riverfront Park, dealing fentanyl

A Salem man is accused of pointing a gun out of his car at another person at Riverfront Park Tuesday morning.

Alex T. Morgan, 38, was charged on Wednesday with unlawful use of a weapon, possessing a firearm as a felon and delivery of fentanyl.

A park user reported around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday that he was walking toward a truck in the north parking lot when a man “pointed a gun and made a threatening statement,” the Salem Police Department said in a news release. “The person retreated and called for police assistance. An officer patrolling the area arrived to find the suspect still at the scene.”

Police identified Morgan as the suspect. Officers seized several items from Morgan including two handguns, two sets of brass knuckles, various amounts of alprazolam tablets, a substance they believed was fentanyl and over $500 in cash.

Morgan’s charges allege that he sold 5 grams or more of a substance containing fentanyl, according to Marion County court records.

Morgan was booked into Marion County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

He has criminal convictions dating back to 2004, mostly related to drug possession.

Salem police said they also seized over $500 in cash from Morgan (Salem Police Department)
