PUBLIC SAFETY

1 killed, 2 injured in Four Corners shooting Thursday night

A shooting Thursday night in Salem’s Four Corners neighborhood left one person dead and two injured, according to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office confirmed on Friday that the suspect was in custody and the two surviving victims were taken to a hospital. But the agency said it would not identify the accused shooter or victims.

Deputies responded just before 10 p.m. on Thursday to a report that shots had been fired in the 800 block of Southeast Shawnee Drive in southeast Salem, the sheriff’s office said in its first news release Thursday night. That statement provided no other information about the shooting near Santana Village Park.

After Salem Reporter sent written questions to the agency Friday morning, it issued a second news release confirming investigators found three victims with gunshot wounds.

Sgt. Don Parise, sheriff’s office spokesman, did not address written questions about what prompted the shooting, the surviving victims’ conditions or the ages of anyone involved.

“There is no reason to believe there is any outstanding threat to the public. This investigation is still on going and we are not prepared to release any further details currently,” the agency said in its news release.

The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information to contact detective Noe Martinez at [email protected] and or 503-316-6650.
