Hoax threat against Crossler Middle School leads police to 3 teens

Three teen girls are facing juvenile charges after police say they were involved in a hoax threat against Crossler Middle School in Salem.

Emergency dispatchers received a call around 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, from school employees who reported “a vague threat against the school campus circulating on several social media platforms,” according to a statement Monday evening from the Salem Police Department.

Security officials with the Salem-Keizer School District helped officers identify and find the three teens involved, all age 13. District officials put the Crossler campus on lockdown as police investigated incident. The school lifted the lockdown at 2:30 p.m.

Each teen was referred to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of first-degree disorderly conduct and released to their parents.

Police did not identify the teens, and juvenile court records are generally confidential under state law.

The department said students and families can report threats of safety or potential violence through SafeOregon. The service allows people to report tips by phone, text, email, mobile app or online.
