YOUR GOVERNMENT: Marion County commissioners consider youth mentorship funding

The Marion County Board of Commissioners meets Wednesday to consider awarding $250,000 of federal pandemic relief funding to Salem-based Isaac’s Room.

AGENDA

The nonprofit seeks to provide life skills, mentorship and employment to teens and young adults in the community. Marion County’s grant is intended to help replace revenue lost during the pandemic as well as for “expanding youth opportunities,” according to the agenda item.

Commissioners will also hear a presentation from the Strategic Economic Development Corporation, also known as SEDCOR, presenting a report on their work over the past quarter.

The board will consider reappointing Raymond Wilson and Cleo Freauf to the Marion County Local Alcohol and Drug Planning Committee, which advises the county’s health and human services administrator and the board of commissioners.

They will also consider reappointing Joe Fowler as a business/industry member to the Marion County Solid Waste Management Advisory Council. Formed in 1989, the council has eight citizen-at-large positions and eight representatives from business and industry who make recommendations to the board of commissioners.
