A long-time Marion County jailer was indicted Thursday on misconduct and witness tampering charges.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to potential misconduct by deputy Janet Eagleston in November, according to a Marion County District Attorney’s Office news release.
Eagleston had been with the office since 1997 and was working in the jail. The office determined the report to be credible, and requested a full investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office in early December. Eagleston was placed on leave.
According to the release, a grand jury has indicted Eagleston on five counts, including first-degree misconduct and tampering with a witness. The charges stem from conduct between September and December.
She has been booked into the Linn County jail, according to the release, though the jail’s roster did not show her as booked Thursday evening.
The release did not list the full charges, and an official indictment has not been uploaded to the state’s court database. Salem Reporter was unable to reach the district attorney’s office for comment Thursday night. According to the release, no further details will be released.
