A three-page affidavit filed in Yamhill County Circuit Court on Tuesday sheds more information on the case of the disappearance of Karissa Fretwell and her 3-year-old son, William.

Fretwell was reported missing May 17 and has not been located. After a week of searching, police on Friday arrested William’s father, Michael J. Wolfe, and charged him with two counts of aggravated murder and two counts of kidnapping.

The affidavit says a family member reported Fretwell missing after going to her Salem apartment and discovering the door unlocked, the television on and several “items Karissa would need to take care of William,” such as a bank card and her electronic benefits transfer card.

A family member also discovered eyeglasses left behind at the apartment, which Fretwell “can’t be without,” according to the affidavit. Fretwell’s vehicles were parked outside.

By then, Fretwell had missed three shifts at work, the affidavit said.

On May 18, Wolfe initially told detectives at his Gaston residence that he had not contacted Fretwell since their April 15 child support hearing. That day he was ordered to pay more than $900 per month in child support, Polk County Circuit Court records show.

Wolfe told detectives he worked a 6:30-a.m.-to-6:30-p.m. shift from May 10 to 13, then had the following week off, the affidavit said.

Wolfe told detectives he had not been to Salem in over a year, the affidavit said.

Cell phone records obtained by detectives showed on May 13, Wolfe’s phone started heading south away from his workplace in McMinneville. By 9 p.m. that night, his phone connects to a cell tower in downtown Salem.

The radius of that cell tower would encompass Fretwell’s Salem residence, the affidavit noted. Wolfe’s phone continues to use that cell phone tower until about 1:38 a.m., when it starts to head north — connecting to a tower in Keizer, then again near his place of work.

Around 2:30 p.m. May 14, cell phone records show Fretwell sent a text message the following day that bounced off a cell phone tower near Gaston, where Wolfe resides, according to the affidavit.

Wolfe is to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon on the charges.
