An SUV struck and killed a pedestrian in the road on Lancaster Drive Northeast in Salem Friday night, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies and emergency personnel responded Friday around 10:25 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 600 block of Lancaster Drive N.E. in unincorporated east Salem, the news release said.

Responders found the 34-year-old pedestrian. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area of Lancaster Drive Northeast was closed for around three hours while the sheriff’s office CRASH Team investigated the crash.

Investigators determined a 2012 Kia Sorento was driving northbound when it hit the pedestrian in the roadway. They don’t believe speed contributed to the crash, the news release said.

The 50-year-old male driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators. No citations or arrests have been made related to the incident, according to the news release.

The sheriff’s office said it would not yet identify the pedestrian before notifying next of kin. Investigators asked anyone who may have information about the crash to call the sheriff’s office’s non-emergency number at 503-588-5032.
