Salem man dies after Wednesday shooting, still no arrests

Deputies say a Salem man who was shot Wednesday night in east Salem later died of his injuries at a hospital.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office identified the man Thursday night as 20-year-old Eduardo Garcia.

An autopsy performed Thursday ruled his manner of death was homicide by gunshot wound, according to an updated news release.

No arrests have been made in the shooting.

Around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded the area of Northeast Hayesville Drive near Northeast Reimann Street where a 911 caller reported a shooting had just occurred, according to a news release issued that night.

Deputies found Garcia, who wasn’t identified in the initial statement, with critical injuries, and he was transported to a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office announced Thursday night that he later died of his injuries.

Garcia’s family requested privacy to grieve their loss, the news release said. The sheriff’s office said it wouldn’t release any additional information, citing an active investigation.
