A bit more snow could fall in areas of Salem Tuesday morning but the temperature had crawled above freezing to 34 as of 5 a.m.

Still, some institutions were taking no chances, announcing on Monday evening delays or limits on service for Tuesday.

No more than an inch was expected by mid-morning Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service, which forecast “a slow moderating temperature trend” starting Thursday.

“More guidance suggests the next storm system brings at least a shot of some brief snow followed by rising snow levels and most valley locations rising above freezing and thawing out Thursday afternoon,” forecasters said.
