Salem man pleads guilty to felony hit-and-run charge after fleeing pedestrian crash

A Salem man who struck a pedestrian with a his car and fled on Sept. 17 pleaded guilty to a felony hit-and-run charge on Friday.

Victor Brayhan Del Rosal Garcia, 23, of Salem, pleaded guilty to failure to perform duties of a driver to injured persons in Marion County Circuit Court, according to court records.

He was sentenced to 20 days in the Marion County Jail and 36 months of supervised probation, and had his license revoked for a year. He also pleaded guilty to driving while suspended.

Around 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 17, a 911 caller reported hit and run of a pedestrian on Lancaster Drive Northeast near Hudson Avenue Northeast in an unincorporated area of Salem, saying the vehicle was a black Chevrolet pickup last seen going north on Lancaster Drive, according to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office news release issued shortly after the incident.

The pedestrian, a 31-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital “for treatment with serious injuries” and was in stable condition, the news release said. Del Rosal Garcia was booked into the Marion County Jail.

Court records showed the charge was a violation of Del Rosal Garcia’s probation. He pleaded guilty to felony fourth-degree assault on July 26 in Marion County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 36 months of probation. The charge was related to a domestic violence incident in May that was witnessed by the victim’s minor child, according to a May 27 indictment.
