Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Oct. 7, 2021

Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest Covid numbers. Here’s our report for Thursday, Oct. 7,

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 116

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 69

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 79 as of Thursday morning, a decrease of two from Wednesday. Of those, 16 are in the intensive care unit, and nine are on ventilators. 

Sixty-two of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 481 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 129, a decrease of six from Wednesday. Of those, 26 are in the intensive care unit and 11 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 93 of 98 staffed ICU beds and 645 of 652 non-ICU beds in use. 

New Covid deaths reported: 59

Wednesday’s reported deaths included a 71-year-old man from Polk County who tested positive on Sept. 16 and died on Oct. 4 at Salem Hospital. The presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.

There were 11 Marion County deaths reported. They are: 

-A 66-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 24 and died on Sept. 28 at Legacy Silverton Medical Center. 

– A 72-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 29 and died on Oct. 3 at Salem Hospital. 

-A 71-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 24 and died on Sept. 29 at her residence. 

-A 66-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 4 and died on Oct. 1 at Santiam Hospital. 

-A 79-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 20 and died on Oct. 3 at Salem Hospital. 

-A  46-year-old man who tested positive on Sept. 14 and died on Oct. 3 at Salem Hospital. 

-An 86-year-old man who tested positive on Sept. 13 and died on Oct. 2 at Salem Hospital. 

-A 57-year-old man who tested positive on Sept. 14 and died on Oct. 1 at Salem Hospital. 

-A 54-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 9 and died on Sept. 30 at Salem Hospital. 

-A 78-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 8 and died on Sept. 29 at Salem Hospital. 

-A 61-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 4 and died on Oct. 1 at Salem Hospital. 

All had underlying conditions.

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 6,168 new Covid vaccines on Oct. 6, including 1,224 first doses; 1,360 second doses and 3,546 third doses.
