A Salem driver struck and fatally wounded a bicyclist Monday night on Hazelgreen Road Northeast, according to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators from the Marion County multi-agency crash team responded to a 911 call around 7:30 p.m. reporting a bicyclist struck by a vehicle east of Salem, near the intersection of Hazelgreen Road with 75th Avenue Northeast.
The cyclist, Salem resident Eileen Rose Johnson, 62, died after being transported to a local hospital.
Investigators determined the driver of a Ford Expedition was traveling westbound on Hazelgreen Road before hitting Johnson. The sheriff’s office identified the driver of the vehicle as Feliciano Mendez Hernandez, 46, of Salem.
The sheriff’s office said no additional information was available at the time of publication.
