Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Sept. 7, 2021

With Covid cases and hospitalizations climbing in Oregon, Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest numbers. Here’s our report for Tuesday, Sept. 7. 

Because of the Labor Day holiday, Tuesday case and death totals also include numbers reported over the long weekend and higher than typical weekdays.

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 602

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 71

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 109 as of Tuesday morning, a decrease of three from Monday. Of those, 23 are in the intensive care unit, and 14 are on ventilators. Eighty-seven of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 474 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 186, an increase of eight from Monday. Of those, 43 are in the intensive care unit and 19 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 98 of 104 staffed ICU beds and 665 of 701 non-ICU beds in use 

New Covid deaths reported: 54 in Oregon. 

OHA had not published counties of residents and demographic information for Tuesday’s deaths by 3:45 p.m. 

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 608 new Covid vaccine doses administered on Sept. 6, including at least 414 first doses.
