Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Aug. 13, 2021

With Covid cases and hospitalizations climbing in Oregon, Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest numbers. Here’s our report for Friday, Aug. 13.

Bottom line: Salem Hospital on Friday reported its highest number of Covid patients at any point since the pandemic began: 81. “We’re beyond full,” said Cheryl Wolfe, Salem Health CEO.

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 116

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 27

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 81, an increase of four from Thursday. Of those, 14 are in the intensive care unit, and nine are on ventilators. Seventy of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 477 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 114, an increase of seven from Thursday. Of those, 20 are in the intensive care unit and 11 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 91 of 96 staffed ICU beds and 713 of 744 non-ICU beds in use

New Covid deaths reported: 7 in Oregon, none in Polk County. A 90-year-old Marion County man died Aug. 11 at Salem Hospital after testing positive for Covid on July 30. The presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 3,800 new doses administered Aug. 12, including 2,727 first doses of vaccine.
