Police shoot, kill man at domestic call; two die at Salem cantina shooting early Saturday

A shooting at a bar and a domestic call overnight Friday left three people dead, including one shot by police, the Salem Police Department reported early Saturday morning.

Few details were released about either incident, including any information about those who died.

In a press statement, the Salem agency said it responded at about 11:20 p.m. Friday to call about a man with a knife and a domestic violence incident. Police said the location was in the 3700 block of Northeast June Avenue, which is about one block north of Northeast Sunnyview Road, between Interstate 5 and Lancaster Drive.

“During the investigation the responding officer shot the suspect. The officer was not injured during the incident,” the police statement said.

It didn’t identify the officer.

The Oregon State Police are investigating because deadly force was used, the statement said.

About two hours later, police were alerted to a shooting at Woody’s Cantina at 1486 Hawthorne Ave. N.E., south of Market Street and next to Interstate 5.

“When officers arrived, people were fleeing the location,” said a Salem police statement. “Officers went directly into the location, made sure there was no longer a threat and located two victims.”

The statement said police found one person dead and that a second person died after being taken to Salem Health.

Police are asking that anyone with information call the Salem Police Tips hotline at 503-588-8477.
