A man incarcerated at Oregon State Penitentiary who tested positive for Covid died at a local hospital on Friday, according to a news release from Oregon Department of Corrections.

The man was between 55 and 65 years old and was the 38th prisoner to die after testing positive for the virus, according to the department. The same day, the department reported the death of another man incarcerated at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla.

Prisons in Oregon and across the country have struggled to contain the spread of the virus. On Thursday, the department reported another two deaths of incarcerated individuals who had tested positive for Covid at Two Rivers and another one the Oregon State Penitentiary. On Sunday, it reported one death at Two Rivers.

According to the department, the Oregon State Police have been notified and the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
