Major industrial fire hits plant in northeast Salem

UPDATE: Firefighters were able to save all the buildings at Oregon Pallet and contained the fire by 8 a.m. Firefighters from Salem, Woodburn, Silverton, Keizer, Marion County District No. 1 and Polk County Fire District No. 1 responded.

As of 11 a.m., firefighters remained on scene mopping up hot spots. Thousands of pallets, five semi-trailers, an excavator and a grinder machine burned in the blaze. The cause is under investigation.

A fire broke out early Monday morning in an industrial building in northeast Salem, lighting up the predawn sky and rousing people with what were reported as explosions.

The fire could be seen from a wide area, and photos posted to social media showed towering flames. The four-alarm fire is at Oregon Pallet, a company at 1650 Salem Industrial Dr. N.E.

The company was established in 1998, according to its website.

Northeast Salem Industrial Drive is a looping road of industrial complexes west of Portland Road.
