CHECK OUT: A country concert, Dead show or Capitol Pride

Wednesday

Country music star Kane Brown plays at the LB Day Amphitheater on Wednesday. Brown’s music is described as a blend of country music and R&B.

Tickets are available online and cost between $40 to $125 and proceeds benefit local nonprofit Family Building Blocks. The event begins at 7 p.m., 2330 17th St N.E.

Thursday

Hoopla, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, hits the streets surrounding the Capitol on Thursday.

The annual event is a tradition for many and is believed to be the second largest of its kind in the United States. Tournament Director Jason Unruh said 1,000 teams will participate in this year’s event. Rivalries have formed over the 21 years the event has taken place, he said.

The event kicks off Thursday with a men’s 2-on-2 invitational tourney at 6 p.m. Friday there’s a free throw contest, hot shot contest and skills challenge. Saturday is the main event, with 3-on-3 games starting at 8:30 a.m. and running until 6 p.m. Sunday the tournament games continue from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The games take place in the streets surrounding the Oregon State Capitol. 900 Court St N.E. A full list of events can be found on the Hoopla website.

Take a long, strange trip down to Salem Cinema on Thursday for the 9th annual Grateful Dead Meet-up at the Movies. The theater will be screening the previously unreleased complete June 17, 1991 concert from Giants Stadium. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 the day of the show. Saturday

Riverfront Park will be filled rainbow flags Saturday as Salem celebrates the LGBTQ community through Capitol Pride.

The afternoon will be filled with booths, activities, food carts and a beer garden. The event is family-friendly and offers live music. The event starts at 11 a.m. at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater. 200 Water St. N.E. More info can be found on the event’s Facebook.

Movies in the Park returns Saturday with “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.” In the film, teen Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his dimension to stop a threat for all dimensions. The movie is rated PG and starts at 8:30 p.m. at the Riverfront Park amphitheater. More info is online. 200 Water St. N.E. 

People are riding for a cause on Saturday during Bike MS: Willamette Valley. The event helps raise money for research and support for those suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.

The Oregon ride is one of 70 across the country put on by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The fully supported two-day ride includes rest stops and an overnight celebration with catered meals and a movie on the lawn.

The ride starts at Western Oregon University on Aug. 3 at 6:30 a.m. and options range from 18 to 160 miles. The event costs $250 to participate. 345 Monmouth Ave N. in Monmouth. More info can be found online.
