When great groups get together amazing things can happen. That was the case when West Salem Rotary invited East Salem Rotary to join them at their social at West Salem Ace Hardware July 25. The group enjoyed wine and appetizers from Roth’s West Salem and discussed the many charitable activities of both service clubs.

Event hosts Jeremy and Heidi Mackay, West Salem Ace Hardware owners, showed off their newly remodeled space. It started with a parade featuring 9-year-old Kison Mackay and 6-year-old Teia McKay waving the Ace Flag.

Jeremy Mackay, who is also the West Salem Rotary president, told attendees about the company’s relationship with the Children’s Miracle Network. Fundraisers for the network in our region go to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

Each year Ace sells blue buckets with all the proceeds going to the hospital. The national Ace Hardware fundraiser is the third largest for miracle network. Nationally, the campaign raised $14 million, including $21,000 in our region.

Also attending were Craig Carlson, who helped with the West Salem Ace remodel and wife Catherine Carlson, president of East Salem Rotary. Ace employee Andrew Mulholland took this opportunity to visit with Amy and Anthony Hansen. Anthony was is a past president of West Salem Rotary.

Salem has five Rotary clubs in the city alone. It is an international service organization whose purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. West Salem Rotary meets Mondays at noon at West Salem Roth’s and East Salem Rotary meets Fridays at noon on the Holiday Inn on Market Street. For more information on Rotary visit IsRotaryForYou.com.
