Teens can grab some popcorn and drinks as they enjoy a trip through space at the Salem Public Library on Wednesday. The library will be screening Apollo 13, which is based the story of the 1970 lunar mission that suffered an explosion in space. The movie starts at 3 p.m. 585 Liberty St. S.E. Practice your downward dog and cat poses to benefit the Willamette Humane Society on Thursday. Furry friends are welcome to join the donation-based yoga and beer class at Capitol Subaru.

Friday

Jest a Second! Pentacle Theatre has a new play opening this weekend. In this comic farce, a man decides to come out as gay during his mother’s birthday party and hilarity ensues.

The play opens on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Aug 17. Tickets cost $29 and can be purchased online or by calling 503-400-6582. 324 52nd Ave. N.W.

Saturday

The Great Oregon Steam-Up aims to give visitors a glimpse into the past, when steam-powered sawmills and trains were the preferred method of transportation.

Marketing Coordinator Lena Prine said there’s something for everyone on Saturday and Sunday. Some of the events include a tractor pull, where tractors pull increasingly heavy weights, a tractor parade and a miniature railroad for kids.

Admission costs $15 for the day or $25 for the weekend. Kids 13 to 18 cost $10 a day or $15 for the weekend. Kids 12 and under are free. 3995 Brooklake Rd. N.E. Info can be found on the Antique Powerland website.

Picture yourself a modern-day Forrest Gump, running for hours with no end in sight?

Then the Angry Owl Ultramarathons might be for you. Held in Bush’s Pasture Park, there’s a 6-hour, 12-hour and 24-hour option for those willing to go the distance. That distance is a one-mile loop through the park for as many times as you can go around.

The 24-hour run begins at noon on Saturday and costs $135, the 12 hour run starts at noon Saturday or midnight Sunday and costs $110, and the 6 hour run starts at noon Saturday or 6 a.m. Sunday and costs $75. 1050 Leffelle St. S.E. More info can be found online.

The Salem Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing patriotic musical scores and a symphonic dance repertoire Saturday morning at the Capitol Mall.

The performance starts at 11 a.m. and lasts an hour. 900 Court St. N.E.

The Space Concert Club is hosting the third annual Rejected Art Fair this Saturday. Listen to live music and look at more than a dozen artists that create art from various mediums, like watercolor, photography or knitting.
