UPDATED: Fire contained at Nissan dealership

Update, 7:50 p.m.

Firefighters have contained a two-alarm blaze at a car dealership on Northeast Market Street, and no neighboring structures are threatened as of 7 p.m.

“While there is still active fire, it is under control, and our crews are efficiently managing any flare-ups,” said Brian Carrara, deputy administrative chief for Salem Fire Department.

Salem firefighters are battling a two-alarm fire at a Nissan dealership on Northeast Market Street.

Firefighters were called to the business in the 2900 block of Market at 4:44 p.m., said Brian Carrara, deputy administrative chief for the Salem Fire Department.

Carrara said firefighters were in defensive mode as of 5:20 p.m., meaning they were working to stop the fire from getting worse. No injuries or victims were reported, he said.

Market is closed from Northeast Lansing to Northeast Park avenues, Salem police said at 5:15 p.m.

The fire sent heavy black smoke into the sky that was visible across Salem.
