Hallman, Myers students surprise Salem-Keizer school board members with colorful portraits

Salem-Keizer school board members got a framed surprise at an otherwise uneventful Tuesday night meeting.
To celebrate Oregon’s School Board Recognition Month, students at Hallman and Myers Elementary School rendered their elected leaders in crayon, watercolor and other media.
The student artists are from Heathre Powell’s second-grade class at Myers and Amanda Broyles’ third- and fourth-grade class at Hallman.
Superintendent Christy Perry passed out the portraits after thanking board members for their willingness to serve the community. Smiles and laughs were exchanged as board members noted how well students had captured their likenesses.
“Man, he looks way better than me!” school board vice chair Jesse Lippold quipped.
