Man stabbed in Riverfront Park on Fourth of July

A young man was stabbed in Riverfront Park Thursday night as hundreds of people sat waiting for the Fourth of July fireworks to begin.

Salem Police Lt. Treven Upkes said officers didn’t find the man who stabbed 23-year-old Jesse Jimenez during the altercation.

Fifteen minutes after the fireworks were scheduled to begin, Jimenez was stabbed on his right side, according to Upkes.

The fireworks were delayed by 30 minutes, but Upkes said he didn’t know what caused the delay.

Upkes said Jimenez refused to tell police who had stabbed him.

Jimenez was taken to Salem Health with non-life threatening injuries, treated and released, Upkes said.
