New principals announced for Salem-Keizer middle schools; Bush Elementary

Jenny Madland, top left, David Wood, Denny McCarthy, Tara Baldridge, Robin Farup-Romero and Kimberly Ingram, bottom right, are taking on new leadership roles in Salem-Keizer schools for the 2019-20 year.

Three Salem-Keizer middle schools and Bush Elementary School will have new principals when school starts this fall.

District leaders announced several promotions and out-of-district hires Tuesday.

It’s the second batch of leadership changes for the 2019-20 school year.

In June, district leaders announced new principals at Battle Creek, Forest Ridge, Pringle, Gubser and Four Corners elementary schools.

Tara Baldridge is leaving her job as Bush Elementary School principal to work as a principal on special assignment for the district. She’ll work with elementary school directors to coordinate projects across Salem-Keizer schools.

Replacing her at Bush is Robin Farup-Romero, who’s joining Salem-Keizer from the Hillsboro School District. Farup-Romero has been a principal at Reedville Elementary School for seven years, where she put a dual-language program in place. She’s also worked in migrant and bilingual education.

At Straub Middle School, former principal Laura Perez is starting a new principal coach job with the district. Denny McCarthy will be the school’s new principal in the fall. He comes from Leslie Middle School, where he’s been principal since 2013.

Principal Jenny Madland will take over at Leslie. She’s been an administrator at Stephens Middle School since 2013, and principal there since 2015. She’s also worked in the district as a journalism and English teacher and middle school instructional coach.

David Wood, an assistant principal at McKay, will be principal at Stephens in the fall. Wood previously taught social studies and journalism at McKay, where he started in 2006.

Kimberly Ingram will join Battle Creek Elementary School as an assistant principal, coming to Salem from the Springfield School District, where she’s been a teacher and coordinator for Title I, a federal program helping high-poverty schools.
