Santiam Brewing is hosting an event Thursday night which allows customers to cuddle kittens and drink beer in the name of charity.
Wednesday
The play “Burst” follows the story of a woman running a tech company that is ushering the planet into the post-plastic era. In the play, she must persevere through a late-night interview with a reporter, a lawsuit and the waffling of her CTO.
The play runs June 12 – 15 at 7 p.m. and June 15 and 16 at 2 p.m. at the Lee Pelton Theatre at Willamette University located at 289 12th St SE.

Thursday
Cuddle kittens and drink beer for charity at Santiam Brewing this Thursday. The Willamette Humane Society is bringing shelter kittens that are too young to adopt to the brewery so they can be socialized. There’s a suggested donated of $5 and Santiam is donating $1 for every pint purchased.
The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Santiam Brewing is located at 2544 19th St. S.E. More info can be found on Facebook.
Friday
Bring your boogie shoes to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall for all-ages Irish dancing on the second Friday of each month. From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. there’s a free lesson where participants are walked through the dances and taught basic steps.
Live music goes until 11 p.m. General admission is $10, students are $5 and families are $30 max. The VFW Hall is located on 630 Hood Street NE. More info can be found on the Ceili of the Valley website.
Get ready to dance to the beat of your own drum during a Silent Disco Friday. Put on headphones and switch channels to choose what music to dance to in the Taproot Lounge and Café’s alley. The alley will be glowing and disco-goers are encourages to wear black light-friendly clothes and bring LED glow toys. Headphones are available to rent for $5 an hour or for $10 all night. Audience members can participate in a live version of an adult-themed card game called “Comedy against Humanity.” Improvisers will set scenes based on attendees’ card suggestions. The table with the most cards chosen will win a prize.

Take yourself out to the ball game Friday as the Salem Keizer Volcanoes kick off the season with an opener against the Boise Hawks. The game starts at 6:35 p.m. and there will be post-game fireworks. Tickets cost between $8 to $20 depending on seating. Games take place at the Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer located on 6700 Field Of Dreams Way N.E. Get your feet moving with a scavenger hunt around downtown Salem Friday night. Sign up starts at 5:30 p.m. and the hunt begins at 6:30 p.m. in the alley between Court Street, Chemeketa Street, Liberty Street and Commercial Street. Live music follows the family-friendly event in the alley behind 1859 Cider Co. located on 249 Liberty St. N.E. More info can be found on the event’s Facebook page.

See original World War II planes up close this weekend when the Wings of Freedom tour comes to Salem. Explore the authentically-restored insides of a B-24 Liberator or a B-17 Flying Fortress. There’s also an opportunity to take flight in some of the historic relics.
Tours are on Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the McNary Field Airport main ramp on 2680 Aerial Way SE. Admission costs $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. World War II veterans get in free. More info can be found on the Collings Foundation website.

The Salem Kiwanis Club is hosting a family-friendly bike ride to support Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program. The bike routes start at the Riverfront Park Pavilion and are either 8 miles or 15 miles long. The entry fee is $25 per rider or $65 for a family. The ride starts at 2:30 p.m. at 200 Water Ave. N.E.
