Salem is skipping its annual Fourth of July fireworks show, though locals have a few other options for an explosive holiday celebration.
Trevor Smith, the city’s parks department spokesman, said the city would have had to contract the show last fall, when the delta surge was underway and larger public gatherings were still advised against. Because of the uncertainty around the pandemic, Smith said the city opted not to spend the money.
But fireworks will be on display in several other cities in Marion and Polk counties.
Independence Days, which runs all weekend, includes fireworks shows July 2 and 4 at 10 p.m. More information about the annual event in Independence is available on their website.
The St. Paul rodeo, which begins Thursday, has nightly fireworks through the Fourth of July, according to a schedule.
The Fourth of July baseball game at Keizer Volcanoes stadium also features fireworks, according to the league website.
Woodburn’s parks department is hosting an Independence Day celebration that includes a fireworks show, according to the city website.
Mount Angel’s volunteer fire department will also put on a fireworks show around 10 p.m. July 4 as part of a celebration held on the athletic fields between Mount Angel Middle School and John F. Kennedy High School, according to an event listing.
