Salemites of all ages can earn rewards this summer by reading books through the Salem Public Library’s summer reading program.
The 2022 Summer Reading Club offers rewards and prizes for kids, teens and adults who track the time they spend reading or listening to books, according to the city of Salem’s website.
The library also has a listening club for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their parents to help develop the early literacy skills needed to become readers.
Registration is available online, and The Beanstack Tracker app is available on the App Store and Google Play.
“Pre-readers” – babies through preschool – complete 10 hours of reading to earn a drawstring backpack and 10 early literacy activities (or 10 additional days of reading) to earn a free prize book.
Those in kindergarten through 12th grade complete 10 hours of reading or listening to earn a drawstring backpack and 10 tickets for a chance to win a prize drawing. They can read or listen for 10 additional hours to earn a free book and 10 more prize drawing tickets, and then continue reading or completing activities to earn more tickets.
Adults can earn a badge and one prize drawing ticket for each of six challenges they complete, and for every 10 hours of reading or listening reported. Anyone who completes at least 10 hours of reading and all six challenges earns a free Salem Public Library tote bag and bookmark.
The programs kicks off Tuesday and ends Aug, 11, with the prize winner to be announced Aug. 18.
