Book-lovers can snap up cheap copies of donated books and retired library volumes as the Friends of the Salem Public Library book sale returns this weekend.

The sale runs Friday through Sunday, May 13-15 and May 20-22 in Anderson Rooms A and B at the Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. S.E. Sale hours are Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays 1 to 4:30 p.m.

The Friends is a nonprofit organization that supports library programs including the summer reading program and the Lucky Day collections of popular newly released items at both Salem libraries, according to their website. Sale proceeds fund their programs.

Hardcover books cost $1.25, paperbacks 75 cents, children and teen books 50 cents, and audiovisual items run between 50 cents and $1, according to an event flyer. Sundays are “bag days,” where shoppers can fill a bag for $4.

The nonprofit last held a book sale in May 2019, said Jeanne Stewart, the organization’s treasurer. As the sale returns, Stewart said there will be no pre-sale day for members.
