Updated: 2-year-old girl hospitalized with gunshot wound

Update 5:30 p.m. Thursday:

A 2-year-old Salem girl shot Wednesday night remains in critical condition at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the Salem Police Department said Thursday evening.

The girl was shot inside her home Wednesday night, police said. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

Lt. Treven Upkes said information about the incident is trickling slowly because of privacy concerns and because of the active investigation. He said they are working with the hospital and the Marion County District Attorney’s office.

“Emotional and complex cases such as this, we’re working with everybody involved as a team,” he said. “It’s not just one organization making these decisions, we’re working in conjunction with others.”

He added that circumstances could change depending on how the girl’s recovery goes. He reiterated the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
