Salem residents can help celebrate the city’s history by sharing a local image that captures part of its story.

As part of the city’s annual Historic Photo Contest, people can submit photos online or on Instagram with the hashtag #salemHLC2022. The deadline is April 12.

The Historic Landmarks Commission-sponsored contest celebrates Historic Preservation Month in May.

Entries can be submitted in multiple categories including best historic interior, best historic exterior and best selfie with a historic feature or building. To encourage younger entrants, the city now has a category for those 18 and younger. More information is available on the Historic Landmarks Commission’s website.

Commission members will vote on winners at an April 21 meeting, with winners recognized in May. Top entries will receive prizes, and the commission chair will give an award to their favorite photo.

Those who submit images will be required to sign a photo release form.
