Hollie Oakes-Miller drops out of mayor’s race, leaving two candidates

Hollie Oakes-Miller dropped out of the mayor’s race.

Hollie Oakes-Miller has dropped out of the race for Salem’s mayor, leaving two candidates vying for the spot.

She told Salem Reporter she didn’t’ have the capacity to run a large campaign.

“Over the last few weeks it became clear that we just weren’t where we needed to be with building the capacity and support to run that big of a campaign yet,” she said in a Facebook message.

Oakes-Miller, adjunct faculty at Portland Community College, was the first to file to run for the mayor position, submitting paperwork in October.

She previously unsuccessfully ran for city council in 2020, losing the race to Councilor Jose Gonzalez.

Chris Hoy, a councilor who is currently serving as state representative for House District 21, is running against Chane Griggs, president of the Rotary Club of Salem and the city’s planning commission, for the mayor seat in the May election.
