UPDATE: The Salem Police Department announced around 12:45 p.m. Monday that South Liberty Road was reopened to traffic in all directions.

Original story below:

Salem police said Monday morning to avoid South Liberty Road after a crash that left four people hospitalized.

The crash was reported to police at 9:42 a.m. Monday and involved a silver Subaru and a Red Jeep, according to Lt. Debbie Aguilar, Salem police spokeswoman.

The crash occurred near near the intersection of South Liberty Road and Ewald Avenue, the Salem Police Department announced around 10 a.m.

Aguilar later said neither car rolled, as the department initially reported.

Four people who were in the Subaru were transported to Salem Hospital, at least one serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. She did not have information about any passengers in the Jeep but said no occupant was transported to the hospital.

Liberty Road traffic is being redirected both Madrona Avenue and Browning Avenue.

Police said to avoid the area for the next few hours as the Traffic Control Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
