Salem residents will get to enjoy arts and crafts, live music or a workshop on birds when the Englewood Forest Festival returns this summer.

Organizers canceled the festival the past two years due to the pandemic.

“But 2022 will mark a turning point, as volunteers work hard to offer an amazing neighborhood experience where people can connect in a beautiful outdoor setting,” a press release said. The festival celebrates art, music, environmental awareness and “reconnecting with the community.”

The free, family friendly event is scheduled for Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Englewood Park, Salem’s oldest park, at 1260 19 St. NE.

It includes arts and crafts, performers on two stages and workshops on art, birds, gardening and forest habitat.

Local artists, craftspeople, nonprofits, food vendors and performers can submit applications online and are encouraged to apply early, the press release said.

Local performers, artists and craftspeople who produce “original, handcrafted work” are eligible, as well as authors, environmental nonprofits and organizations providing free community services, according to the statement. Nonprofits and community vendors must have an activity related to the forest habitat, native plants or trees, and art workshops should help mentor young artists.

The festival started in 2017 with “a group of residents living around the Englewood Park coming together and organizing an event to celebrate the talents in Northeast Salem, and to hold a community celebration where people could connect in a beautiful setting.”
