Willamette Valley Hospice has changed its name to better reflect the services it offers.

It’s now called Willamette Vital Health.

The nonprofit has been serving the area since 1978 and offers hospice care, grief care, supportive care and an adult foster home.

The volunteer board of directors wanted to rename the nonprofit to bring more awareness to its other offerings.

“I think it’s misleading to just call ourselves a hospice,” said board member Rick Cook, referring to programs like the Tokarski Home and supportive care, formerly known as home-based palliative care.

In a news release, the nonprofit said it chose the word “vital” because “receiving the right care at the right time is vital during difficult times in life, like coping with a serious illness or grief.”
