The Bush Barn Art Center has four new shows this month, including work from Salem students and works that feature every color of the rainbow.

Traces is a group show from the Band of Artists Collective that explores the concept of the palimpsest, where materials and ideas are scraped away or removed, leaving a trace of the idea behind as other materials and ideas are layered on top.

“As women, as artists, as gardeners…as daughters and mothers and friends, we find the trace of others stamped on our minds just as we leave a shadow behind,” a preview reads.

The artists include Elizabeth Bauman, Dayna Collins, Nancy Eng, Lucy Hewitt, Bonnie Hull, Susan Napack, Jessica Ramey, Katy Vigeland and Kay Worthington. The show runs through April 23 in the Art Center Annex Gallery.

The center is also featuring “River Series #2” from artist Sara Swanberg until March 26.

Her wood and clay sculptures showcase her love of rivers and fascination with the grains of various wood types which often mirror the flow of river water.

The annual Young Artists’ Showcase is filled with colorful artwork from Salem area K-12 students and runs until March 26.

Guest Curator Shawna Merrill presents, “I love color,” an exhibition using artwork from the Salem Art Association’s permanent collection, with every color of the rainbow.

“Come see these colorful exhibitions at the Bush Barn Art Center and then walk through Bush’s Pasture Park to take in nature’s art show too,” an exhibition preview said. That exhibit runs until April 23.

The Bush Barn Art Center is located at 600 Mission St. S.E. and is open Thursday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and masks and social distancing are required.
