The Salem City council meets Monday to deliberate on the Meyer Farm subdivision proposal, consider acquiring property for a bike lane project and to hear an annual report on efforts from the Historic Landmarks Commission.

AGENDA

The council will either affirm, deny or modify the Nov. 3 planning administrator’s decision approving the 139-lot subdivision at 4540 Pringle Rd. S.E., the Meyer Farm property.

The proposal has drawn opposition from neighbors concerned about the degradation of open space, loss of historic property and traffic, among other concerns.

No testimony will be taken at Monday’s meeting.

The council will also consider acquiring property on Southeast Commercial Street for a buffered bike lane project. The project would add bike lanes from Southeast Superior Street to Southeast Madrona Avenue, along with a new bicycle signal south of Southeast Alice Avenue, a pedestrian crossing with a flashing beacon at Southeast Triangle Drive.

Councilors will also consider a resolution urging Congress to lead the global effort to prevent nuclear war.

“Resolution No. 2022-10 urges the United States Congress to take steps to lead the effort to prevent nuclear war, including; adopting legislation to provide a congressional check on the president’s authority to use nuclear weapons, cancel plans to replace the United States’ nuclear arsenal, urging the federal government to join the Treaty on Prohibition of nuclear weapons, and pursue international agreements to eliminate other country’s nuclear weapons,” the resolution states.
