It’s not spring just yet in Salem.

After several weeks of mild temperatures, overnight lows are expected to fall into the low and mid-20s overnight for much of the week ahead, according to the National Weather Service’s Portland office.

In response, homeless services organization The ARCHES Project will open two warming shelters overnight from Monday through Thursday.

The shelters are at First Presbyterian Church, 770 Chemeketa St. N.E., and the future city navigation center at 1182 22nd St. S.E. Shelters open at 7 p.m. and close the following morning at 7 a.m.

Volunteers are needed at both locations for four-hour shifts. Learn more about volunteering on the warming center website, or sign up for a shift here.

Rain and snow showers in Salem are possible Monday night before 11 p.m., but snow isn’t expected to accumulate, the weather service said.

The forecast calls for cold but sunny days Tuesday and Wednesday, with a slight chance of snow showers Thursday before 2 p.m. The temperature is expected to drop to a low of 20 degrees Tuesday night, with overnight lows in the 20s until Saturday.
