Sewer overflows into Pringle Creek

Raw sewage spilled into Pringle Creek Wednesday morning, the city of Salem said in a news release Thursday.

The overflow was caused by a tree root blocking flow in the sewer. About 23 gallons of sewage were spilled form the site near 1866 Ewald Ave. S.E.

Salem Public Works crews stopped the overflow around 11:30 a.m., 20 minutes after it started. They removed tree roots causing the blockage.

City environmental services staff took samples of the water’s surface.

β€œAny bacteria that entered the site should be flushed out of the water body in the next few days,” the city said in its release.

If you see an overflowing manhole or want to report a spill, call the Public Works Department Dispatch Center at 503-588-6333.
