Police, FBI looking for man they say robbed a Salem bank

Salem police and the FBI are asking for tips about a bank robbery Jan. 14 at a Columbia Bank branch in southeast Salem.

Around 5:55 p.m., a man entered the front doors of the bank 3300 block of Commercial St. S.E. “displaying a handgun,” according to a Thursday news release.

He demanded money from employees, who complied, before leaving the front door with the money.

Salem Police Department officers arrived quickly but couldn’t locate the man, who witnesses described as a white, male adult around 5’10” to 5’11” with a bigger build, the news release said. He was last seen wearing a black mask, a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black jacket, pants and gloves

The department asked anyone with information about the robbery to call the Salem Tips Line at 503-588-8477.
