Salem police are looking for a driver they say hit a woman with their car Monday and fled the scene.

Around 3:12 p.m., the Salem Police Department received a report about the hit-and-run in the 300 block of Northeast Liberty Street, Lt. Debbie Aguilar, a spokeswoman for the department, said in an email.

Aguilar said the woman was crossing Liberty Street eastbound in the north crosswalk with a cross signal when a car struck her. Police believe the driver was turning northbound onto Northeast Liberty Street from Center Street and didn’t yield to her in the crosswalk.

“The victim was knocked down and received injuries from the crash,” she said. The driver stopped momentarily before driving off northbound on Liberty Street, she said.

Aguilar said the vehicle was a small black passenger car, and the driver was a man.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital’s emergency room for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Salem police are asking anyone who saw the crash or has information related to the investigation to call the department’s TIPS line at (503) 588-8477.
